What was previously confirmed to be four tornadoes that touched down in Wisconsin during last week’s severe weather has now increased to the number of seven, as tornadoes were confirmed in locations including Watertown, Johnson Creek, Sullivan, West Allis, Burlington, Nashotah, and Lake Geneva, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Though last week’s seven tornadoes were designated as EF-0 tornadoes, the lowest classification on the Enhanced Fujita scale, tornadoes, much less than seven, have not occurred in the month of October in Wisconsin since 2019.

On top of the previously confirmed tornados by the NWS in West Allis, Burlington, Nashotah, and Lake Geneva on Monday, three additional tornadoes touched down in quick succession last week in Watertown, Johnson Creek, and Sullivan.

The tornadoes ranged from 65 miles per hour (mph) to 75 mph, though most of them petered out quickly, traveling less than 5 miles.

The West Allis tornado was the first tornado to hit Milwaukee in 22 years.

Though trees and power lines were toppled during the weather, no fatalities have been reported so far.
